Guidelines for installation of URSA® glasswool in wooden joisted ceilings

Required tools and materials:
1. Insulation foils URSA® SECO 150
2. Insulation foils URSA® SECO 200
3. Mineral glasswool insulation tape URSA® TRS
4. Mineral glasswool insulation panels URSA® FKP "Energy saving house"
5. Mineral glasswool insulation felts URSA® DF40 "Warm ceiling"
6. Mineral glasswool insulation felts URSA® DF45 "Warm house"

URSA® felts and insulation panels are used for filling space between joists; they provide thermal and acoustic insulation between rooms divided with the ceiling.

Guidelines for installation of URSA® glasswool in wooden joisted ceilings

Step 1
Cut URSA® felts or panels according to the joist spacing with a 2–3 cm allowance so that the glasswool insulation tightly fits the space between joists. In case of wooden ceilings, the insulation thickness should not exceed the height of load bearing joists.

Step 2
Wool placing starts after installation of ceiling panels on grid nailed under the joists. If insulation foil has not been placed under the joists beforehand, than if the upper room is not heated, URSA® SECO 150 (200) foil should be placed under wool between the joists so that it makes U-shaped channels.

Step 3
To silence the sound of steps on the floor use URSA® TRS acoustic tape laid from the top on the joists, on which the proper floor is laid.

Step 4
An alternative solution consists in laying URSA® TRS acoustic glasswool panels on chipboard URSA® V100 E1 p/w (fixed with galvanised nails to the joists). Protect the panels with construction foil and start laying the top floor tier.

Step 5
On the floor of unutilisable garret glasswool may be left uncovered if the steep roof is sufficiently protected against seeping. Insulation thickness must be increased (to minimum 20 cm) to prevent condensation of water vapour on the inner side of the roofing. If rooms above the ceiling are not heated, a layer of URSA® SECO 150 (200) insulation foil must be spread under thermal insulation
