Insulation of the "wet-made" floor [1]

Installation guidelines for isolating floating floors with URSA® FLEX elastic polystyrene foam panels.

Required tools and materials:
1. Elastic expanded polystyrene panels URSA® FLEX
2. Mineral glasswool insulation tape URSA® TRS
3. Insulation foils URSA® SECO 200
4. Two-sided sticking tape URSA® TOP DK

Installation guidelines for isolating floating floors with URSA® FLEX elastic polystyrene foam panels.

Step 1
The base (ceiling) under URSA® FLEX panels must be clean, even and dry. If surface roughness exceeds 9 mm (measurement with a 2-m rule), they must be evened up with cement mortar or self-levelling mortar.

Step 2

On a ceiling, URSA® FLEX panels must be laid so that they adjoin tightly, and their joints make a “passing” (interweaving) pattern.

Step 3

Along walls or other construction elements, e.g. doorframes or piping, URSA® TRS glasswool expansion tapes, or pieces of URSA® FLEX polystyrene foam should be placed up to the full height of floor layers.

Step 4

Spread hydroinsulating layer of 0.2 mm thick URSA® SECO 200 insulation foil. Neighbouring sheets must overlap by 10 cm, and the edge sheets should be wrapped on the expansion joints to the height of 6–7 cm. Fix overlapping sheet edges with URSA®TOP DK adhesive tape.

Step 5

On so prepared insulation layers cast minimum 4 cm thick tier of cement mortar (mortar class: 20, consistence: thick, maximum aggregate size: 8 mm). Use directional slats to maintain uniform mortar spread.

Step 6

After initial setting, float the subfloor with wooden smoothing trowel, using thin cement mortar. Subfloor should be sprinkled with water during first 10 days, and protected against early drying.

Step 7

Use of self-levelling cement or anhydrite mortars is allowed (layer thickness according to the maker’s data).
